Project Unsilence

In Malaysia, there has been a 48% increase in reported domestic violence cases from 2000 to 2016, according to the Women’s Aid Organization (WAO). However, WAO estimates that for every reported case, nine go unreported. In response to this alarming trend, Project Unsilence has launched a nationwide initiative to combat sexual assault and harassment in society.

Project Unsilence uses a combination of art and technology to create a space for victims to externalize their experiences and emotions. The initiative encourages individuals to document their instances of harassment and abuse, and a brainwave-tracking system is used to extract five emotional patterns in real-time. These patterns are then translated into three-dimensional forms and letters, creating a representation of each individual’s experience.

Through this process, Project Unsilence aims to break the silence surrounding sexual assault and harassment, and spark a change in how these issues are addressed in society. By empathizing with victims and bringing visibility to their experiences, Project Unsilence hopes to create a safer and more inclusive environment for all.
